You can also monitor your baby with this application without a monitor that you may misplace later on.

Including live video streaming using MJPEG technology and the ability to access public cameras all over the world, Eyeseeu has many cool functions that you can share with your co-workers, neighbors and family members.

Eyeseeu provides video set-up for no more than six cameras and allows you to select each one from a drop-down list, allowing you to switch cameras almost instantly.

Paying for video surveillance systems can cost you hundreds of dollars and you may even throw it away once it becomes outdated.

If you have a pesky housemate or roommate and you suspect that they are searching through your things, just leave cameras in your room and prove if they really are looking through your things. All you need to do is set up the cameras in your iPod, iPhone or iPad and then, when you see them, you can use the new zoom-in and out feature to catch every single detail.

If you would like to scare someone out of your room, you can also trigger generic actions like an alarm or switching a light on and off among other cool functions. Feather Gears game for iphone

Feather Gears game for iphone

Feather Gears is a side scroller game where you must try and escape the city of Spring Steel using your mechanical flying apparatus. You have a limited energy so you must be careful how often you flap your wings or you will run out. To make matters worse, the way out os littered with robots and other debris that will drain your energy if you crash into them. You do have three boosts that will send you flying through the air. but once they are gone you will quickly fall toward the earth.

You aren’t completely on your own with your escape. There are plenty of power-ups to help you on your way. Shields will keep you from losing energy when crashing into objects. Beakers will add energy and lightening bolts give you a free boost immediately. Another way you can extend your flight is by using the lift from the various objects in the sky. There are fans and other boosters that will send you on your way with a bit of extra lift. It is quite challenging to see when they are coming especially when you are moving quickly. When falling fast I would regularly crash right through fans instead of getting any lift.

The game comes with three characters, two of which are unlock-able IAPs for $.99. The main character is well balanced while the others are weighted toward boost speed or gliding ability. You must fly 3000 meters to reach to escape the town, and I found this task very difficult. This game does not give you any mercy when it comes to winning, but that means it is that much more satisfying once you make it. Once you have the game mastered there are a myriad of achievements to unlock that give you more challenges to face. The gameplay is quite simple and I think this is the sort of game that you will either love or hate. The good news is that it is free to play so if you want a new casual game to try and recommend giving Feather Gears a go and see if it turns your crank.

FieldNotes Pro app for iphone

FieldNotes Pro app for iphone

The app is similar to other “junk drawer” apps like Evernote, they offer a quick way to collect text, pictures, audio, and video that relate together into folders. FieldNotes Pro time and geostamps each post so you can tell when and where you took that note. If you are wanting to catalog things along a trip, this will allow you to find them later using GPS. If you need to mark a note after you have left the area, you can edit the geostamp to be placed anywhere you prefer. The maps can only be accessed from within individual notes. I think it would have been nice to be able to browse notes based on map location and see them graphically on the map.

After you have your note in place, FieldNotes Pro offers a nice selection of media to attach to the note. Images and video can both be captured live, while audio has to be recorded live. Multiple media files can be attached for each media type and they all became part of your note. One feature that surprised me was the inclusion of drawing on images. This proves great for highlighting something in a photo or covering up something you don’t want shown.

With you notes coming together and as your folders start to fill up, you are probably wondering how to get these notes out to other applications for sharing. FieldNotes Pro has you covered with a decent variety of formats and methods of sharing. The first option is to export as a .kmz file which opens directly in Google Earth. I wish there was a way to open .kHz files in the iOS default map app, but otherwise the files works perfectly in Google Earth.

The second format is as a .zip file which puts each note, and its attached media, in a folder and zips them for easy sharing. Finally, you have a PDF which creates a very handsome PDF on the selected notes. This report style is great for anyone that needs to send the notes in a raw un-editable format. These file formats can all be send via email, iTunes file transfer, Dropbox and FTP. The Dropbox feature does seem to answer the problem of cloud storage when comparing to Evernote. You will have to manually sync, but you can also choose your destination folder and for many field workers it is better to keep the data offline in case you run into areas without signal.

FieldNotes Pro is complete note taking package that has an additional focus on geolocation. There are some features that are noticeably missing like search and being able to organize folders, but otherwise I found FieldNotes Pro to be a great tool for any note taking you might want to do out and about. If you want to give FieldNotes Pro a try, you can download the free lite version. Once you have fallen in love with its easy interface, you can easily upgrade to the pro version which runs $9.99.

Plango for iphone/ipad

If you have ever been charged with planning a party of other gathering you know the struggle of getting everyone’s schedule in sync and keeping everyone abreast of detail changes. With almost everyone on Facebook these days, there is a golden opportunity to utilize their events feature as a way to connect with other attendees and to help organize events. Plango takes this a step further but integrating their web based planning software with Facebook in order to help you get people to events, whether it be for coffee, or a wedding.

Plango doesn’t require Facebook to be effective. You can send invites via email, Facebook, or text message, and recipients will be able to join the events since Plango is its own online service at http://myplango.com. The advantage of connecting with Facebook is that the service integrates fully with it so when you make changes they are posted out to the Facebook attendees.

Enough about Facebook, lets look at the app itself. WHen you start you have the inbox which shows you events you are in and any new happens for them. Attendees can chat within each event so if you wanted to choose a restaurant you can do so within the actual event. You also have tabs for a calendar, which shows not only our plunge events, but pulls calendar entries from Apple’s official app. Skipping over the enlarged add button, you have a friends tab where you can follow other plunge users to see what calendars they have shared publicly. Finally there is a profile tab where you can get an overview of your profile and make changes to it.

Features-wise Plango has a lot in common with Facebook’s events but takes the organizing and connection to a higher level by letting your friends come from Facebook or not. The calendar also has an interesting features call map view. It lets you see your events laid out on a calendar for any given day. This would make it much easier to plan a route if you will be driving all over town.

If you like to plan events a head of time and need a tool to help everyone who is attending connect and RSVP, Plango is definitely a good solution. I like that other users are not obligated to actually have Plango which makes it a more inclusive solution than straight Facebook. I would have liked to see other social service integrations like Foursqaure, and twitter, but perhaps these can come in later updates. Plango is a free app on the app store, so give it a try and see if it helps make things easier for that next birthday party.

Minesweeper Q game for iphone/ipad

Minesweeper Q game for iphone/ipad

For those that haven’t touched a computer before, Minesweeper is a puzzle computer game that was popular way back in the mainframe computer days in the late 60′s and 70′s. Since then, there has been versions of the game for virtually every platform. The game is a simple grid of cells that you must uncover to discover where the mine are without uncovering them. You accomplish this with the help of numbers that tell you how many mines are adjacent you the cell. Once you have uncovered all the cells that do not contain the mines you win. If you uncover a mine you immediately lose.

Since the game is so basic, what makes MineSweeper Q stand out from the crowd? It does have two different control styles, one is a tap to uncover, tap and hold to flag, while the other is tap to flag and tap and hold to uncover. You can adjust the sensitivity of the controls to suite your needs. The difficulty can be adjusted by changing the size of the grid and the number of mines. One nice feature is the five themes for the board. My personal favorite is the sky theme with flying whales for mines.

Minesweeper Q has GameCenter support for leader boards. It tracks time, streak, and total won for each difficulty. Some of the time scores seem a bit dubious since they complete the maps in 0 seconds. I wonder what their streak is at. There isn’t too much more to Minesweeper Q keeping with their slim and fast motto. The game is ad sponsored but there is an option to remove the ads for an additional $1.99 which also lends your support to some developers that seem very open to what the customers are wanting in a Minesweeper game. While I will confess that I haven’t played many Minesweeper games on the iOS, I will say that Minesweeper Q lives up to the promises of being fast and user friendly. I found it to be a rock solid version of the classic ad would recommend this to anyone that loves to sweep a few mines now and then.

Elder Sign horror game iphone

Elder Sign horror game iphone

Elder Sign is really a derivative of the larger fantasy horror game Arkham Horror. Both games are based in the world of H. P. Lovecraft, best known for his monster Cthulhu. Both games are cooperative board games that pit you against an ancient evil that is trying to wake up, and while that is happening you are trying to survive the monsters that are spawning around the board. Elder Sign is an abbreviated dice rolling game compared to Arkham Horror, but has a significantly shorter play time from the behemoth of AH. Elder Sign: Omens is in turn an abbreviated version of Elder Signs the board game though as we look it will be apparent that Fantasy Flight could upgrade the game to include the full range of features.

Elder Sign: Omens starts off with you choosing four investigators from the sixteen from the original game. Each investigator has an innate ability as well as some starting equipment. You can choose your investigators to compliment each other, or go for a random team, which I found was much more challenging. From there you are treated to a nice cut scene which sets the mood very well.

In Elder Sign the board game there are several possible Ancient Ones that you choose from and each has different abilities and when they wake up you then must fight them, which means the game isn’t over until everyone is dead, or insane. In Omens however, the developer has opted for the easier solution of only providing one ancient one; Azathoth. When he wakes up the game is over and everyone loses. I would hope that future updates would bring the other Ancient Ones to the game without all of their different conditions since the first one limits your winning conditions to collecting elder signs.

Elder Sings are collected by finishing missions that provide them as a reward. Each mission is at a different location in the museum and you must accomplish a Yatzee style game of rolling dice or face the marked punishments. Some missions wont give you an elder sign, but they will give you items that you will need to help complete future missions.

Elder Sign: Omens has no multiplayer, but can be played hot seat style especially with the iPad version. I think it would be even better if you could all see the board and watch the others play, but like other board games on the iOS (Settler’s of Catan, Ticket to Ride) the game lends itself to being played on a coffee table with a few friends. The music and sound effects are spot on and will help enhance the mood of this already dark game. The lack of some features from the board game limits my suggestion of purchasing this game instead of the physical version. My opinion could be swayed if I saw further updates to bring it on par, or surpass the board game, but as it stands I would recommend this to anything you already plays the game, or wants to give it a try and see if it is right for them. The $3.99 and $6.99 for iPhone and iPad respectively is a much smaller investment then the $30-40 you can expect to pay for the original. Grab your notebook and get ready to face your worst fears in Elder Sign: Omens, now available on the app store.

Etsy iphone application

Etsy iphone application

Etsy has released their native iPhone app that offers a complete interface for browsing and purchasing items from the handmade boutique.

Native apps are a good way for a site to bring users into the service with a connivence of being able to easily show while on the go, and Etsy’s app is no different. The first tab is a featured items page with a nicely designed collage of popular items for sale. You then have the search tab which also allows you to browse the various sections of the site. The item pages are also equally well laid out with good use of white space. You can easily swipe through the photos on the product and tapping on them gives you an enlarged version to see details. Items can be added to the cart and the final two tabs allow you to manage your profile and your cart.

From the social side of things there is a button in the top right of each item page that lets you share the item on Facebook, Twitter, email or even text/imessage. You can also favorite an items or a shop to easily return to it later. The purchasing process if relatively pain free for using Paypal. The Paypal site is worked in seamlessly into the app so you don’t feel like you are jumping to a webpage at all. Feature-wise the Etsy native app replicates all the functions of its already well made mobile site except that the interface items are on the phone already so the interface is a bit more responsive and the data usage is slightly less. The biggest advantage of the native app is that it does provide push notifications when the seller has sent your orders. If you area big Etsy shopper I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t want to put this app on the iOS device right along with your Amazon, and Ebay apps.

Lost Winds game for iphone

Lost Winds game for iphone

Lost Winds, the whimsical adventure platformer game that has been a favorite of many on the Wii’s WiiWare store has been ported to the iOS and released as a universal app. The game garnered much praise on the Wii Platform with its unique controls and deep ambiance. Can Frontier Development bring that same magic to the small screen?

I remember loving this game on the Wii in spite of its short coming. It was a charming tale of a little boy that helps a wind spirit save the world from an evil spirit. You controlled Toku with the nun-chuck and remote, making swipes to blow wind that lifts you and other objects. This control is easily translated into swipes on the screen. I found some of the more advanced moves to be a bit challenging, but otherwise it was a good transition.

The game walks you slowly through the controls and has a nice linear difficulty increase. As you progress you gain different abilities that open up new areas of the world. Speaking of the world, the environment is intoxicating with peeks into an expansive world of cliffside houses and waterfalls. The little details like the villagers that react to your gusts of winds, help make this game a pleasure while traversing the map.

One feature I found helpful was the addition of a map that shows you where a new area that have opened up. Playing this game can be difficult in bright areas at time, since the darker cave locations make it hard to spot cliffs or paths when your brightness isn’t set to its highest.

The game gives you three save slots which is great if you have family that shares an iOS device. While this game is by no means long, there is plenty of content to enjoy and it lacks that dragging feeling that can sometimes crop up in the midgame of some adventures. I hope that the sequel is also brought to the iOS as this would make for a great combination.

There are many platformers on the iOS and many of them are hands down amazing. Lost Winds is one of those titles you can tell was originally a console game and its has the polish and attention to detail to be a hit on the iOS even at its higher price point. It should be mentioned that the original listed for $10 on the Wii app store so at $3.99 this game is a bargain. If you like Adventure games with immersive graphics and zen-inducing music then give this title a try.

Epoch game for iphone

Epoch game for iphone

Epoch is a polar opposite in terms of theme compared to Infinity Blade. Where IB took place in a fantasy world of Orcs and Castles, Epoch is a post-apocalyptic worlds of debris and shelled out buildings. A world ravaged by a war that you are thrown into without much to understand why. You know you were charged with protecting someone, but where they are and what has transpired to bring all this destruction is story that is pieced together, as you play, from transcripts, and intercepted communications you get through the game.

There isn’t much in the way of humans in the world of Epoch, there is instead an endless stream of robots that want to turn you into a pile of smoking scrap. Luckily, you are not defenseless as you always seem to face them with several bits of debris to hide behind and an ever growing list of weapons to purchase and upgrade. The inventory is very reminiscent of Infinity Blade, though it lacks the experience leveling that IB had. Here you level up based of how you performed on each level. This also determined how much money your make. Don’t worry about having enough though as you can always replay a level to make more money and experience.

The levels are a series of battles where you swipe to change positions avoiding your enemies’ fire while you bring on the hurt with your own munitions. There is some strategy involved in choosing who to take out first to keep from being overwhelmed, and you much be mindful of incoming artillery even when you are in a relatively secure position. The swipe controls works very well for the devices touch screen and shows that developers are really rethinking control schemes to take advantage of the lack of tactile buttons. I do wish there had been save slots in Epoch since as it stands there isn’t any way for two people to share a device, but otherwise I would say Epoch has hit another home run for the Unreal mobile Engine. If you found yourself playing Infinity Blade for house upon end then it is a no-brainer to pick up Epoch. If you are new to the iOS I can’t think of a better title to get your feet wet with a high quality title like Epoch.

PhotoToaster for iphone/ipad

PhotoToaster will pull photos from your library, camera, clipboard, or even Facebook for you to edit. For the user that wants to make a quick tweak before sending off their photos, there is a large selection of presets from the globe icons in the lower left. Here you will find many high quality filters for your photos. If you are familiar with Instagram then you will have an idea of the kind of filters you will find. Some give you a vintage photo look, while others are light enhancing or have borders.

If you are more of a hands on person, There are separate controls for lighting, effects, vignette, and borders. Each of these have their own presets and an icon that gives you traditional slider bars. There is quite a bit you can do to make improvements you your photos. All of these filters are full image filters as there is no way to mask the filters or select portions of the photo.

Once you are done, the usual saving options are available with the inclusion of Instagram being a surprise. Tumblr, Facebook, etc will prompt you for logins when necessary. I personally like to save my photos to the library where I can distribute them as I please. PhotoToaster Jr. is ad supported but you can also purchase the Senior version from the app store for $.99. This adds more effects and tools for editing your photo as well as lacking ads. Even if you are looking for a no cost option, Phototoaster Jr. is a feature pack photo tool that should do the trick for more basic image editing.

PDF Reader for iphone

PDF Reader for iphone

With any document app on the iOS, the biggest hurdle is access to the documents themselves. Apple doesn’t give you many built in options, so developers have had to find their own ways. The most immediate method is the WiFi sharing. This opens a web accessible page to upload PDFs to the device. THere is also a nice selection of cloud services that can be attached to. Dropbox, Box.net, Google Docs, and even WebDAV and FTP are represented. You can also browse the web with an in-app browser to download PDFs from a site (I should point out that this ability should be available in the Safari.app. Do you hear me Apple?)

Once you have all your documents cozy and safe on your device, it is time to open them. PDF Reader loads pages in blocks which is almost instantaneous for most text heavy documents, but can be slow on larger graphic heavy PDFs. Forms can have text entered and signatures can be added as well lines and arrows for annotation. There are also a text search which doesn’t always work with every PDF depending on how the creator made the document.

PDFreader has several tools you can use to enhance your reading of documents. From text reformatting, to rotation locking and auto scrolling it has more powerful features than iBook has to offer. I did have a few crashes when dealing with larger PDFs, but if you find yourself working with PDF documents on a regular basis, PDFreader gives you many pro features in a small package. PDFreader is currently only $1.99, which is well worth it for the signature and form filling features alone.

iFortress app for iphone

iFortress app for iphone

iFortress isn’t a game of tower defense, it is an encrypted storage app for text and pictures that you may not want becoming public.

iFortress stores all its content in a encrypted file using AES 256-bit encrpytion to make it impossible for the average snoop to be able to access. Apart from store government secrets, iFortress should be able to keep anything you place in it secure. The data is accessible with a password and there is a setting for how many wrong password attempts to allow before the content is wiped. This means you need to use a password you will remember because there is no way to access those files once you have forgotten the password. You may disable to auto-wipe if you are prone to forgetting and need more attempts, but set that setting before to exit the app the first time because the default is five attempts.

The file management is simple to use, and works like many other files management apps. You can create folders and move files between them with buttons along the bottom. You can store text and pictures in iFortress, and the later can only be taken from within the app. I suppose that any photo you wanted stored so securely wouldn’t be on that you wanted written to an unencrypted part of memory, even for a few minutes. The downside is if you do take photos, and then decide you want them encrypted, you don’t really have an option with iFortress.

While bringing content into the app is a bit limited, you do have the option to email content from the app. Remember that this uses Apple’s built in mail app which has no options for encryptions so this would cause you content to become insecure. Perhaps iFortress should implement an encryption option to either attach an encrypted file, or to use PGP when emailing. Otherwise, iFortress is a simple text and image file storage with a decent amount of protection. The auto-wipe feature could be great for some, while being a boon for others, and the lack of features means iFortress could be so much more than it is. For a solid tool that does its job without fuss, iFortress is available in the app store for 9.99.

NoteLedge is yet another note-taking app that runs on the iPad. Take note of the phrase, “yet another.” Indeed, apps of NoteLedge’s kind are far from scarce in the App Store. So, when a new note-taking app comes along it ought to offer something markedly different, right? Fortunately, NoteLedge does.

What may be NoteLedge’s most noticeable point of distinction is its heavily leather-inspired interface. It’s what catches your eye every time you use it. Of course, NoteLedge is supposed to be an alternative for a regular, tangible organizer or journal, so the idea that every nook and cranny of the app is outfitted in stylish leather is not a mere affectation.

When you first launch the app, you’ll be greeted with an overview of what the app is capable of as a possible replacement of your usual real-world note-taking apparatus or your usual note-taking app (if you already have one). It shows the wide-ranging possibilities available with the interface. Especially if you’re used to one of those plain and simple writing apps, this may result to an information overload of some sort, what with the bevy of buttons and gizmos displayed on this welcome cum help screen. But it actually amounts to a nice preview of the useful features that NoteLedge has in spades. It’s recommended that you peruse the screen and see the details for each feature so as to be able to make the most out of NoteLedge.

Since this is an app that apes a notebook, the bulk of the screen in NoteLedge is naturally occupied by a writing area. Don’t expect for the hidden keyboard to pop up when you touch that area, though: NoteLedge is primarily a sketch pad (which explains why it’s available only for the iPad). Simply run your finger on the screen to draw or write stuff on it. If you want to change the writing tip type (pencil, brush, crayon, etc.) or adjust the line size, opacity, and color, tap on the appropriate thingamajig tucked into the right side of the screen. An eraser option is also part of this group of settings, while undo and redo buttons are located at the top, along with buttons for saving your note locally, saving it to your favorite cloud backup service (Dropbox, iCloud, Box.net, GoogleDocs, FTP, WebDAV), emailing it or sharing it to Facebook, protecting it with a password, and clearing the current page. Buttons for viewing a slideshow of all of the pages in the current notebook file and disabling sketch mode are also placed up top.

A rather redundant sketch mode toggle button is also found among the options that appear when you tap the Media tab on the bottom left. From here you’ll be able to add audio recordings, video clips, bookmarks, text blocks, and images. You can also apply a new template or make a custom one by using an image from your photo library.

And then there are the Palm Rest and Navigator features. The former, accessible with a tap on the bottom right corner of the screen, gives you a movable rectangular and semitransparent pad to rest your palm on while sketching with your fingers or with an iPad-compatible stylus, averting any stray skteches or function actuations that might be caused by the capacitiveness of your palm. The latter, accessible from the upper right corner, brings up a special rectangular loupe that allows for a more precise mode of adding clever touches to a page.

Files, by the way, are saved and grouped according to their date of creation. This is in keeping with the strap line of NoteLedge, which says that it is “a fantastic tool to preserve your great memories.” And NoteLedge sure looks and feels like it.

Hipstamatic Disposable iphone app

Synthetic is has an answer for those that wish digital photography had gone and ruined all the inconveniences of traditional film with the Hipstamatic Disposable camera app.

Now this isn’t a disposable app. You only have to download it once to enjoy the digital reincarnation of the disposable camera experience. The Hipstamatic Disposable comes with two different filters (each camera type is a different filter) from which you can make as many disposables as you want. Each disposable camera comes with twenty-four shots and that filter can not be used until the current roll is complete. There are some limited sticker choices to design the way your a label so you can name a group of pictures.

The filters are nothing we haven’t already seen on many other retro image apps. You are also not able to see the filters until after the photo roll is done so there will be not previewing a shit to see if it needs to be retaken. This is to help give you the experience of a true disposable camera. Cameras photos are grouped by camera, and they can be shared across the usual social media sites. For those of you that can’t get enough of digital representations of older technology, there are seven other filters that can be purchased with IAP from the “Hipsta Store.” Some of these allow for unlimited cameras to be created, while others give you a more realistic feel by giving you a limited number of cameras you may make from the filter before having to purchase more. It reminds me of a pay per use software license and doesn’t seem to really add any significant value to the app.

While I am a fan of retro things, I has a soft spot for pixel graphics, or chip tunes, I don’t see why anyone would enjoy using a camera app that takes all the things we loved about retro photography, and then intentionally breaks the user interface for the sake of being retro. If you are a fan of Synthetic’s other Hipstacam apps and are a glutton for punishment if it is in the name of retro then this app succeeds in providing you with that. For the rest of us, I think we will continue to use one of many easy to use retro filters, and leave the disposable cameras to nostalgia.

Angry Gran game for iphone

Angry Gran is a new casual game that takes a somewhat controversial theme and pairs it with a light gameplay and addictive unlockables.

Armed with a rolled up newspaper initially. Your sweet and fragile grandmother walks the street taking out everything in her path. The object is to hit the passing people and objects with as much force as possible to score money. To do this you tap and hold to build up your meter. WHen it is full you let go to unlatch an attack, that if timed correctly, will smash the object or person, giving you a pile of cash. You can let go before the meter is full, but it will not give you as much cash.

While assault and vandalism may seem easy, you have to always be on the lookout for the constable that if hit will lock you up for a moment. You must also time your strikes perfectly or else you will hit yourself and wind up in a wheelchair. The wasted time brings you closer to the checkpoints that comes at intervals. If you have not reached your quota for cash before reaching them then the game is over. Between games you can spend your cash to raise your stats and purchase items that will help you in the game. You can also upgrade you weapon with one that has extra abilities.

There is an IAP to get cash quickly if you are the type that doesn’t like to work for your achievements. The game also provides a pension that build up as intervals so you can collect more cash by returning to the game often. Games like this are simple and offer a small amount of fun. I had an enjoyable time playing it for a couple afternoons, but quickly grew tired of it as the grind for better items set in. Being a free game, I think this is perfectly acceptable, and the in app ads were not a bother to me. As casual games go this one is right down the middle, not to boring, but also nothing too amazing. Check it out and see if Angry Gran is the kind of game for you.

StarXStar game for iphone

StarXStar is a card based board game that pits you against an opponent in a strategy game themed around star constellations.

Unfortunately the first thing I noticed about the game was a lack of instructions. There was no way to know how the game was to be played. I initially attempted to figure the game out on my own, and while I could place cards on the board easily enough, I was unable to determine what the meaning of each card was. The iTunes app store page for the app was also unhelpful. The answer came from the app’s website, which doesn’t rate high on Google’s search results. From there I was able to learn how to play the game.

The basic game is played by laying down on of the drawn cards on the 3×3 board. If you place it next to an opponent’s card that has a lower number adjacent to your’s then the card is turned your color. The object is to have more cards turned your color when the board fills up. Games are played as best of three and there are many variation to give you variety of games, each with their own strategy.

As you play the game you can unlock new cards to add to your deck. The game has a simple concept that is implemented such that it will offer a wide variety of strategy. The lack of instructions would be a big set back for the average gamer, but once the game is understood its is a fast card battle that will challenge the mind. For $.99 this game is a possible buy is you are a fan of the genre.

Creepy Crawlies game for iphone

Creepy Crawlies game for iphone

The game takes its cues from the long line of AR games that have sprung forth from the app store since iOS 4. The game pits you against an endless onslaught of bugs, mice, snakes, and other unsightly pests, as they march toward you and attempts to make you dinner. You are armed with some measly bug spray, but you will soon find yourself roasting the roaches with a flame-thrower or a laser raffle.

The game is controlled by holding the phone in your hands and looking around at the scenery arounds you. There is a radar dish in the corner that shows you where you are looking in relation to the incoming bugs. Once you have the bug in sight you let loose while avoiding his flanking brethren. There are six rounds and three difficulty levels which seems like enough to keep you busy.

Control-wise I had a difficult time with moving around and getting a bead on the enemy. This is until I actually watched a video of someone playing the game and I realized that this game is intended to be played standing up, and with a fair amount of room to move. This is a step more realistic than most AR games that have you simply rotating around in one spot. This can be hard for some who play their games in offices or other locations that don’t afford them to move around. Another notable omission if that lack of any high scores, or GameCenter support. Games like this thrive on the player competition to beat out their friend’s scores. While this may be comes in the future, I still found the game entertaining once I had mastered the controls. There was certainly a bit of fear welling up inside as I shuffled back way from the incoming tarantula.

The ongoing playability of games like this is hard to determine as they limit where the gamer can play, and they tend to be simple 3-D move and shoot games. This theme is definitely one of the better choices to AR, so I hope that as this game is updated we can see the features and levels expand to keep the game fresh. If you are interesting in picking up an AR game for your new iPhone 4 I think Creepy Crawlies is a good pick and will be giving you the willies for quite a while.

Paper Monsters iphone game

Paper Monsters iphone

Paper Monsters is one app that deserves much more recognition than it is given. Beyond that modest name lies an app that promises bountiful joy and hours of fun. With 4 chapters and more to come, the game delivers entertainment through the many stages in each chapter. Although obviously targeted at kids, players of all ages can enjoy this game too.

Game play involves taking control of an anthropomorphic cardboard box that looks strangely like the Shufflebot from Party Rock Anthem, and exploring the lands of the game. As the game progresses, players are met with obstacles they have to overcome. While taking place in what seems like a park, this game is definitely no walk in the park. Players have to think out of the box (no pun intended), and solve the challenges in their way. One example would be when players have to make use of an enemy’s ability to blow himself up to lower a drawbridge so that the rest of the stage can be made available for access.

One thing I like about the game would be the pipes scattered around levels. Entering such a pipe brings you to a slightly altered version of the stage, essentially making a mini bonus stage. Find the exit pipe to resume the rest of the level. While some of the pipes bring you to an entirely different environment, others bring you to a stage set in the background of the actual level. This means your character, along with the obstacles you have to overcome, will be seen in the distance while the original level scenery remains in the foreground. This adds bonus points in my book, as it serves as an interesting alternative to boring and repetitive stages.

I must also mention that the game also comes with a customization mode, where players can decorate the cardboard box with “clothes” they can purchase using buttons obtained in game play. There are also a lot of “coming soon” features, which I suppose will make the game even more awesome than it already is.

The game presents itself in a cutesy 3D effect, making full use of the display abilities found in iOS devices. I tested the game on both my iPhone 4S and my 2nd generation iPod Touch, and be it the later or newer device, the game delivered smoothly. Sound wise, the game reminds me of those cartoons meant for preschoolers, which fits the game very aptly.

All in all, this game is definitely worth the $0.99 it costs. Despite not being fully completed as seen from the slew of “coming soon” signs, this game still impresses and although it’s target audience is most likely towards the younger crowd, teens and young adults might find this entertaining too.

The Hacker for iphone

The Hacker for iphone

The Hacker by Angry Bugs is a throw back to the days of modems and when cyberspace was a mysterious world of hackers with fancy interfaces.

Much like other hacker games, The Hacker places you in a virtual world where you must gain access to a variety of remote servers from around the world to gain information about the Glider Corporation. I wont tell you much more about the plot as this is a story driving game. The interface for hacking servers is series of puzzles that much be completed. Some involve moving bugs around a room to their respective platforms, while others are timed puzzles or memory tests. With each completed server you gain more story and move access to new features.

The game has an email system where the characters send you files or messages, but the best part of the game is the mini games. The G.A.M.E.S. section has a variety of fun arcade style games that you are able to unlock with XP you earn hacking servers. There are achievements and leaderboards with GameCenter Support, but all of it is wrapped in the retro world of old mainframe style computing.

I will say that there are secrets to be discovered in this game and with two expansions that can be purchased, there is plenty of content to keep you busy. The puzzles are not too difficult, but that really depends on your ability to abstract the problems at hand. I game the game to several friends of mine and some of them were throughly stumped by puzzles I completed in minutes. Even with the somewhat short gameplay for me I found The Hacker a nice diversion with a unique theme on the app store. The $.99 price is certainly a benefit for a game like this so if you want a puzzle game steeped in a 90′s style hacking theme, then be sure to check this one out.

To do checklist for iphone

Unlike a certain recently released to-do list app that was “clearly” stripped of all features but its ability to make lists itself, To Do Checklist seeks to provide you with a comprehensive solution for all your to-do list-making needs. It’s a feature-rich productivity app, to be sure, but it’s not so packed as to confound you with so many options. What it does is present you with only the most useful features that you’ll ever need in a digital task assistant.

As this is a to-do list app, to-do lists are its lifeblood. And to add to its overall purpose you simply tap the friendly plus button for Task Lists. You can make use of any of the preset lists or just start a new list of your own. Adding a task in a list is just as easy: tap the friendly plus button for Tasks this time around. In either case, a pop-up text field appears for you to fill in with the title of your task list or the task item itself. You can create any number of lists about any number of item groups, from grocery items to errands to run.

But, as implied earlier, the extent of To Do Checklist doesn’t stop at mere list-making. The app also lets you add details to a list item, including a due date, a reminder, editable notes, and even a number to call and an email address to contact directly from the app in connection with the task on hand. Support for badge and home screen notifications is also built in, so you don’t get to miss important items. And the app also allows sending entire task lists via email or via SMS, so you’re covered even when you’re not connected to the Internet.

In this fast-paced world we live in, it’s important to have a semblance of structure as regards our time and activities. To Do Checklist can help you establish and maintain not just a semblance but an actual state of management and organization.
